Lessons Learned So Far on my Writing Retreat

by Kaneisha on April 30, 2011

I don’t feel like my work is endless, I feel like I have accomplished something everyday, and if I maintain this pace, I should have an entire book by the end of the seven weeks. There are times when I want to try sprinting through the first draft of the book, but I don’t want to tire myself out 3/4 of the way through. I’d rather jog along at a steady pace that feels good and is getting me to where I want to be.

Crawling Before I Walk

by Kaneisha on February 16, 2010

When discussing my many hopes and dreams, my grandma always says to me, “Kaneisha, sometimes you have to crawl before you walk,” to which I hastily reply, “But I don’t want to crawl!” However, I’ve started to think that The Evangelist Beaulah Mae Sholtz may just have a point. My public access television show is [...]

When You Need a Friend to Slap You

by Kaneisha on February 5, 2010

Lately I’ve been feeling like I’m falling apart. No, not losing-my-mind-about-to-run-naked-through-the-grocery-store-singing-Michael-Jackson’s-greatest-hits-at-the-top-of-my-lungs-falling-apart. Self-limiting talk is not attractive coming out of anybody’s mouth! However, you may not even know you’ve been engaging in self-limiting talk. [...]

Focus vs. Discipline

by Kaneisha on December 23, 2009

I published this post with the permission of my admissions coaching client. One of my admissions coaching clients has been struggling lately. She has consistently missed the deadlines I set for her, put off taking the tests I ask her to take, and just seems a little scrambled all-around. During our most recent session, she [...]

My Birthday List

by Kaneisha on November 4, 2009

I inherited a love for making lists from my father, who litters our family’s house with lists wherever he goes. He has lists for his daily tasks, gifts he plans to buy, computer maintenance issues, you name it. I’m also a big list-maker, and I want to take my birthday to make a list of [...]
