Some contemporary thinkers are lashing out against the trope of the unhappy writer–not the individuals themselves–but rather our passive acceptance of the existence of the miserable, broke, and moderately insane word artist. It wasn’t until recently that I realized–or at least admitted to myself–that I too was headed on the path of being one of those miserable writers.
