Last week, I found a list of "goals by age 26" that I made when I was 17 and a freshman in college. From freshman - junior year, I repeated those goals to myself by writing them down repeatedly, creating new plans, revising them. Senior year, I decided to change industries and stopped looking at the goals.

In Oct. 2011, I turned 26. Guess what, although I hadn't looked at them in ages, those goals were still driving my choices. The path (industry/ job) has changed, but the end goals remained. My goals from freshman - junior year, were very similar to the 1-year goals, I wrote in Sept. 2010.

This really speaks to the power of writing down goals & seeing them frequently. I saw them almost weekly from freshman - junior year and they stayed with me until now--even though I hadn't looked at them in 5 years.

I'm creating a vision board this weekend!

Suz! That is such an awesome story! I'm so happy for you! That also reminds me of the post You Already Have the Answer where I encourage people to think about what they wish was different--and then see if the solution might be right in front of them. I still think you should make a vision board!

OK, long vision board story:

Months and months ago (when you first put this post up) I thought, "Pffffft! Vision boards = lame-o-rama!" and didn't think about it again. But, this past weekend, I started thinking "Well, there ARE things I would really like...maybe I should make a VB." I started thinking about what goals I would try to concentrate on, where I would get the pictures/glue, how they would look all smushed up together, etc. Well yesterday, I was doing the grocery shopping for my office and just started daydreaming about how one of the big things I would include on the board was my desire to fix these big deep scrapes on the side of my nice new car. Well, as I pulled into the 3rd grocery store (we have to go to 4 different stores every Monday!), I was digging around in my purse when a man pulled up in a MOBILE SCRATCH AND DENT REMOVAL VAN and asked me if he could fix my car up while I went shopping!!! He asked for $300 but I talked him down to $200 (1/4 of what a body shop had previously quoted!). By the time I was done shopping he had completely removed the scrapes AND hammered out a dent that I hadn't even ask about fixing! It was so magical. All I did was just daydream about making a VB about this one particular problem, and my problem was solved. It may have just been complete coincidence, but it seems pretty magic to me. This incident just reiterated to me a valuable lesson: LISTEN TO KANEISHA.
